DMA Christmas Showcases
We all have a favorite Christmas song-a song that encourages us, reminds us of fond memories, and brings a big smile to our faces. There’s something powerful about music that ministers to our spirits in ways we can’t describe. That’s why the students and instructors of Dawson Music Academy enjoy sharing music with our community each Christmas.
During the month of December, Academy students will share music through a variety of different Christmas Showcase opportunities. One of our favorite Academy traditions is “Christmas at Chick-fil-A.” On a Saturday afternoon, Academy students and their families will gather at a local Chick-fil-A restaurant to share Christmas joy with the community. Students will enjoy playing Christmas songs, celebrating their musical gifts, spreading Christmas cheer, and tasting a seasonal treat at Chick-fil-A.
In addition to our Christmas Showcase at Chick-fil-A, several of our students will visit retirement homes across Birmingham. We’ve all heard it said, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing (playing) loud for all to hear.” Connecting with senior adults in our community is a wonderful way for students to encourage other people with the joy of music. Specific days and times vary with instructor, so talk with your instructor or email the Academy Office (dma@dawsonchurch.org) for more details.
One of our annual highlights of the season is Music on the Patio at Dawson. To celebrate the sounds of the season, some students will share music on Dawson’s Patio on Sunday mornings. This joyful celebration provides a great welcome for people as they attend Sunday worship.
Christmas Showcases provide the perfect ending to an exciting semester of musical progress! As students invest time preparing their songs, they gain new musical skills. Some students will join together to play or sing in groups. Other students will play duets with siblings or with their instructor. We’re proud of our students and look forward to celebrating with them during one of our Christmas Showcase opportunities this semester!
