Favorite Music App for November

Is your child a fan of Star Wars? If so, I encourage you to check out our favorite app for November. This app combines adventure and learning into one experience. As they travel to a galaxy far, far, away, students practice naming notes on the musical staff. In keeping with the Star Wars theme, students aim their fighter plane at the correct note on the staff to match the given note name.

Staff Wars

The Staff Wars app is great for Star Wars fan. With visual graphics and sound effects reflecting the Star Wars theme, students find new enjoyment in what can often become mundane theory practice of naming notes. Students can customize the settings as they “Select a Mission” to practice reading treble clef notes, bass clef notes, or even alto clef notes. There are adjustable levels of practice to reflect the learner’s ability level. The game records student’s progress by keeping score of how many notes the student named correctly.

Benefits of Technology

Technology has a wonderful way of engaging students of all ages. Students often enjoy the animation and interactive features. As a teacher, I value the immediate feedback that students receive. Instead of waiting until next week’s piano lesson for me to check their theory homework, students receive immediate feedback. The Staff Wars app indicates the correct answer to students, so they can learn from their mistakes. As they continue to practice, they improve their note reading skills.

Importance of Reading Music

Learning to read music is an important skill for developing musicians. Students develop confidence as they learn to read music fluently, . Reading music also expands a student’s opportunities to play new music. By developing this skill, students gain new appreciation for the beauty of music.
